I love Terri Blackstock; she is one of my favorite fiction authors. I always appreciate her stories and her bravery to include the gospel and strong Christian characters to emulate in every story.Intervention is about a widow whose daughter becomes addicted to drugs and alcohol. In an attempt to get her daughter help, she calls the first rehab group she finds online with a Christian label. Soon she organizes an intervention to send her to the clinic.On the way to the clinic, the owner of the rehab is killed and her daughter is suspected of the murder. Frantic to find her daughter, the mother goes in search for her, but ends up kidnapped and in danger.Both daughter and mother rehearse their past mistakes and seek God's forgiveness. In so doing, they are able to re-enforce their relationship to God and learn to trust in him.Intervention will keep you interested all the way to the end. Well written. (less)
Terri delivers again in this tale of a young family struggling with the reality of a family member who is a casualty of the drug trade. She gives a very stark picture of the realities of the far reaching consequences and price that the family of a drug addicted member goes through while keeping the mystery intense and moving. I found myself rooting for Lance and Barbara as they race to find Emily before it is too late. Very well done novel that left me eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.
INTERVENTIONHow far does a mother go for her daughter, who is a drug addict. A 90 day retreat with a woman, was what Barbara felt was a last resort for her daughter. What happened for the interventionist, now dead, The cops are sure it is the girl who did it, her mother says no, With her fourteen year old son, can they find her, and without a phone, is she guilty. Twist, heart wrenching plot, Barbara has in some ways lost a daughter, but she still has hope to be found, and found innocence.
Barbara Covington's teenage daughter, Emily, went from debutante in training to drug addict. Barbara is drained from Emily's illegal activities and has decided it's time to stage an intervention. At first it seems all is going according to plan, but then the interventionist, Trish Massey, is murdered and Emily has disappeared.Although I'm not sure most mothers would put themselves in dangerous situations to find a missing child (they'd let the authorities handle what they are trained to handle), I was impressed by Barbara's strength and determination. There were times, though, when I could understand Kent's agitation towards this hard-headed woman. Barbara's son, Lance, was just as hard-headed., but he was a help to her during the whole ordeal.This book taught me quite a bit about drug addiction; how it affects the person stuck in it and how difficult it is for families dealing with an addict.Kent was a likeable character; Andy was not. They were both believable. There was a choice Kent made concerning Lance that didn't seem realistic to me, though. It wasn't professional with everything that was going on.Two of the many messages this story sends: Just because the word `Christian' is attached to a person or place, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing. Sad, but true. And when serious problems arise, that is when you find out who your `true friends' are.Intervention is a well-written, thought-provoking Christian novel and what pleased me most was that the author did not shy away from including Scripture and prayers, silent and spoken. There were also characters struggling with their faith as Christians do at times. I liked that the chapters were short. Also, it was so intriguing that I felt like I was watching a movie. This story kept me on the edge of my seat. It was definitely a page-turner!
I've read Terri Blackstock novels in the past and found a favorite author in her! This series delivers Blackstock at her finest! The storyline hits us in the heart. Drug use and abuse is a serious issue in this fallen world and no one is immune. God's grace is sufficient and His love knows no bounds, as Emily and her family learn in the midst of their trials and tribulations.
This was one of those books that just slapped me in the face with it's stark reality. Sure, I watch the tv show Intervention. I know there are people in this world that struggle with addiction. Until this book, though, it never really sunk in how painful and difficult it really must be for people that struggle to get help for their family members.In typical Terri Blackstock style, this was not just a novel that dealt with a major issue. She had to get her bad guy in their somewhere! In this story, though, she didn't hold out until the end of the book to reveal this crazy madman who was out to get revenge. I liked that I was able to get a better understanding of his character before he really went off the deep end.I also thought her portrayal of Barbara, Emily's mom, was very realistic. I'm not a mother yet, but I know if I had a child that was in harm's way, I would be beating down the door to the police station every single day for them to get busy finding my child. Her struggle to do whatever she could was constantly at war with Detective Kent Harlan who just wanted her to stay out of the way.And Lance!!! Barbara's young son almost stole the show! His inquistive personality was a lot of fun to read, as well as his desire to be the "man of the family" at 14 years old.What more is there to say? I can't help but give 5 huge stars for this powerful novel. It was such a fast read, and worth every second to learn the things that I did. This book challenged my thinking about what goes on in neighborhoods I don't drive through, and in families that keep their struggles hidden. Highly recommended!
